Horizontally Launched Projectiles
When projectiles are launched straight out, they are called horizontally launched projectiles. Similarly, the launch angle is zero since the projectile is launched straight out.
This assignment is set up as an experiment. In a valid experiment, you (the experimenter) change one variable (the independent variable). Then, you determine the effect of changing that variable on the other variables.
For this experiment, the variables are:
Launch height
Launch velocity
Projectile mass
Launch angle
Range
Time in the air
You use the simulation to do the experiment 3 times using the variables in blue as the indendent variable. The launch angle must be set at 0 degrees for all tests since you are testing the effects of the blue variables for a horizontally laucnhed projectile. You will gather data about the effect of the independent variable on two dependent variables, the range and the time in the air.
Look through the list of pointers below to help you use the tools in the simulation.
